About Me

Ashley Liu is a lecturer of modern Chinese literature and cinema at the University of Maryland. Her Ph.D. degree is from the University of Pennsylvania, where she developed a duo-specialization in Chinese and Japanese literature. She specializes in Sinophone Studies, Sino-Japanese exchange, and digital humanities. Born in Guangzhou China and raised in Canada, she speaks English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, and Korean. She can program in Python and is a web and database developer. She publishes on postcolonial and postmodern studies regarding the Sinophone world and the Japanese empire.
